Describe the chemical duty clearly
We fabricate and install PVC ducting for corrosion-resistant applications, with standard diameters from 150 mm to 400 mm. We’ll confirm the material, airflow requirements and configuration for your project.
Provide the substances involved and available safety data sheets, together with the process conditions the designer needs to assess. Explain any expected changes in use. Ask FumeCare to confirm the proposed material and fabrication scope for those conditions instead of assuming that every PVC component suits every chemical application.
Prepare a fabrication brief
| Information | Include where available |
|---|---|
| Application | Process description, substances and operating conditions. |
| Route | Dimensioned sketch, ceiling/roof route and connection points. |
| System design | Required airflow and design information from the responsible designer. |
| Components | Bends, transitions, joints, supports and access needs. |
| Scope boundary | Fabrication only, supply, installation or part of a full extraction system. |
Plan the connections and access
Identify the cupboard outlet, fan connection and discharge arrangement on the drawing. Mark building penetrations and areas requiring coordination with other trades or the building owner. If drawings are preliminary, label them as such and identify which dimensions still require a site check.
Ask how the proposed arrangement allows inspection and maintenance. Consider how fabricated sections will reach the installation area and whether the work affects occupied rooms. Resolve the route and trade coordination before components arrive.
Compare like-for-like quotations
- Use the same route drawing and chemical/process brief for each quotation.
- Ask suppliers to identify material assumptions and unconfirmed dimensions.
- List included fittings, supports, site joints and installation work.
- Clarify who checks system performance and supplies the handover records.
Flexible ventilation hose and fabricated chemical extraction ducting have different specifications. For a laboratory project, have the material, construction and performance requirements reviewed as one system.
A useful first request is: “We need fabricated ducting between this cupboard and the proposed fan; the attached sketch shows the route and constraints.” Add chemical and design information, then ask which details must be resolved before a firm fabrication quotation. The result should be a defined scope, not simply a length of pipe.
