Identify the working position
Look for the sash label, stop and operating instructions on the installed cupboard. The working position provides the opening used for the approved task and assessed airflow conditions.
Full travel and working travel serve different purposes. A higher opening used for access or loading is not automatically an approved position for chemical work. Follow the installed model’s procedure when moving between those activities.
Check the task at that opening
Review how the operator will handle apparatus with the sash at its working position. Include tall vessels, stands and connections in the setup. If the task needs a different opening, discuss the arrangement with the laboratory supervisor and equipment specialists.
- Can the operator complete the task without putting their head inside?
- Can apparatus be loaded and removed under the approved procedure?
- Do leads or tubing interfere with the sash or its movement?
- Is the label readable and the movement normal?
Understand the control arrangement
Our Smoothflow design uses a bypass grille above the sash opening. SashDrive uses sash position to regulate exhaust fan speed. These are different ways of managing the airflow as the opening changes.
The SashDrive planning guide explains the equipment and building information needed for an energy discussion. Keep energy-saving decisions within the assessed operating arrangement.
The face-velocity explainer shows why the opening belongs in an airflow test record.
Report a sash fault clearly
Stop using a faulty sash under your site procedure and report the issue. Record the cupboard model, what the sash did and whether the problem is repeatable. A safely taken photograph of a damaged label or visible fault can help.
Leave adjustment of stops, counterweights, controls and other mechanisms to the appropriate technician. Use our servicing enquiry guide to gather the details. If the cupboard has been altered, include any subsequent test or service records.
